As someone who has had a very non-traditional career as a DJ and entrepreneur, I’ve learned a thing or two about business. In order to grow, change and evolve both my companies and myself personally, I have had to set specific objectives in order to achieve success. Although making a plan can seem intimidating, it doesn’t have to be. Here are five simple ways I’ve found are helpful for setting attainable goals:
The first step in creating realistic goals is to brainstorm the process. It is much easier to climb a set of stairs where each step is one notch above the other.
Itemize your brainstorm into a logical progression. My favorite way of doing this is with a pen and paper with check boxes next to each step. I reference this list every day and make sure to cross off each accomplishment. This not only feels great but keeps you laser focused on the task at hand.
Sometimes we need a little help creating a habit. This feature on our phones can be a great tool for accomplishing our goals. Setting reminders with alarms on deadlines is a great way to stay on top of the deadlines we set.
Give yourself time frames for your goals and stick to them. Limiting our time frame drives us to accomplishment.
Only you are in control of your destiny. Don’t wait for anyone to give you permission and don’t expect anyone to reward you. Follow your heart, and know that your gut is your compass.
