Letter from Lauren: April

April has been an action-packed month. The minute the weather tops 60 degrees in New York City and the trees in Central Park begin to bloom, everyone is out and about, shedding their winter jackets and soaking in Spring. Running around to get Matzo for Passover and candy-filled eggs for Easter, this month has been full and festive to say the least. Two of my little boys also have birthdays in April, one turned four and my baby turned one. To top it off, April is Earth Month, which we celebrated at FEED by announcing some ambitious sustainability goals and restocking our Love Your Mother Earth Tote, appropriately made from certified Organic cotton.

All of this planning and celebrating has left this post-Pandemic (or are we really post-Pandemic?!) semi-introvert feeling overwhelmed and run down. As the world accelerates towards summer, how do we slow things down enough to be more present and learn to say ‘no,’ even when we want to say ‘yes’? The recalibration back into the more ‘normal’ ebb and flow of life has thrown me for a loop.

As we head into May, I’m challenging myself to stay more present, grounded, and well-paced. I invite you to join me! And tips are always welcome.

Here are a few things I've been loving & living in this past month

Change Making

For Earth Month, we were proud to release our first set of goals regarding our sustainability work – and updates on the ways we’ve been designing sustainably since 2007. Learn more on the blog.

Reading, Watching, Listening

I have been listening to Florence + The Machine’s new album on repeat, especially her anthem, “King”. Book wise, I enjoyed reading “Intimacies,” by Katie Kitamura this month and now am knee deep in a mystery thriller called “The Likeness,” by Tana French. And TV wise, I have been enjoying “Julia” on HBO, which is a charming show chronicling the rise of Julia Child to TV chef superstar.

What's your morning routine?

My morning routine is always a tad different, but generally I get up around 7am and help hustle my oldest up and out and onto his school bus. I then go and get my baby up, which is one of my favorite parts of the day because I get the biggest smiles when I enter his room. Then I make breakfast (usually eggs) and hang out with my two youngest before the middle guy goes to school. Sometimes I manage to squeeze in a jog outside or some light weight lifting before starting work myself. Oh, and I always need an oat milk Americano or Latte, either homemade or from a local coffee shop, to start my day right- it is my small morning indulgence. ;-)

How I Wear It

Because this month has been so on the go, I have found myself constantly packing and unpacking my XL Market Tote. It is truly my ‘Mary Poppins bag’ and always manages to fit all I need. The army green color also goes well with so much of my wardrobe. Here I paired it with my Alex Mill khaki work pants, Polo RL cashmere turtleneck and white sneakers, and silk scarf made by an artisan group based out of India called Sonica Sarna.

Comin' Soon

We have so many great new styles coming out next month, including one that just screams spring & summer – I can’t wait to use mine and spend some time communing with nature. Be sure to join the waitlist.
